Surfaces is a series of photographs, started in the summer of 2026. It includes photographs of building facades, exterior walls, and by extension, any external surface with a regular pattern featuring repeating elements. While it may seem the series is architecture-centric, the walls are only a metaphor. A carefully composed, visually balanced facade, gives no information of what hides behind it. This makes Surfaces a series about the composure we all maintain, the polished exterior that invites us to read stability while keeping the interior private.

The inspiration for this project, actually stems from music. Pink Floyd released The Wall in 1979, a concept album, and one of my favorite musical pieces of all time, which explores the story of Pink, a rockstar who builds a wall of isolation around himself brick by brick: the loss of his father in the war, a smothering mother, a cruel school, a failing marriage, the pressures of fame. The album ends with the collapse of The Wall and closes on a half-spoken sentence that is finished only when the record begins again, revealing the cyclical manner of existential crisis. The album focuses on what happens inside this metaphorical wall. Surfaces looks from the opposite direction, showing only the outward appearance, keeping what lies within hidden.
